Luxury tour to discover the treasures of the lagoon

Explore the islands surrounding Venice

Venice and its islands

As autumn arrives, Venice unveils a more intimate and poetic side. Far from the summer crowds, the islands of the lagoon emerge like precious gems waiting to be discovered. From Murano to Burano and the Lido, each place tells a unique story, full of centuries-old traditions, vibrant colours, and peaceful, untouched corners.

The ancient art of glassmaking

Murano, with a history dating back to the 1200s, is an island where time seems to have stood still. But why is Murano so famous for its glassmaking, and why here?

According to tradition, in 1291 the Doge decided to move all of Venice’s glass furnaces to Murano, as most houses at the time were made of wood and prone to frequent fires. Although glass production was already active before the year 1000, this transfer established Murano as the centre of excellence for this craft.

Strolling along its canals, one is immediately enveloped by the charm of the historic furnaces, where master glassmakers shape glass with techniques passed down through generations. Every breath, every gesture, creates unique works of art, infused with passion and skill. Watching an artisan at work is like witnessing the birth of a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.

But Murano is not just about glass. Among its narrow streets are artisan workshops and small cafés overlooking the water, where you can immerse yourself in the tranquillity of lagoon life. In autumn, sunlight filters through the clouds, casting warm, soft hues over the glass, creating a magical atmosphere.

A rainbow of history and tradition

While Murano enchants with its art, Burano captivates the heart with its vibrant colours and fascinating history. The brightly coloured houses, reflected in the calm waters of the canals, are a delight to the eyes and an invitation to stop, breathe in the crisp autumn air, and feel inspired.

There are two legends that explain why every house in Burano is painted a different colour. The first is linked to fishing, which was central to the island’s economy. Fishermen painted their homes in distinctive colours so they could find their way back, even through the thickest fog. The second legend suggests that the colours were used to distinguish the different families on the island. Since many families shared the same surnames, the colours of the houses helped to identify them and simplify local nicknames.

Burano is also the realm of lace, a delicate and refined craft that has found its highest expression here. Walking among the lace makers’ workshops is a journey into a tradition that speaks of centuries of passion and dedication. And don’t forget to taste the "bussolà", fragrant S-shaped biscuits, perfect for enjoying as you stroll through the silent alleys or to take home as a sweet memory of an unforgettable journey.

Malamocco: between sea and lagoon

Autumn on the Lido is a season of tranquillity. The long stretches of sand blend with the steel-grey sky, creating a landscape of rare beauty. But beyond the beach, the Lido hides a small gem: Malamocco. This ancient village, one of the oldest settlements in the lagoon, preserves the atmosphere of a bygone era. Its narrow streets and low houses tell the story of sailors, merchants, and fishermen, weaving a captivating tale of history and legend.

Exploring Malamocco is like taking a journey back in time, far from the frantic pace of the city, where every corner tells a story and every stone echoes the past.
